What’s your story?

I studied Art History in college and was introduced to textiles from all over the world but I didn't start weaving until after college. I took a few classes at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts and fell in love. I spent the next several years traveling around as much as I could and exploring the art and craft of different cultures. This led me down the path of place based making. So when I moved to Detroit four years ago I began cultivating a relationship with the land here and creating what I consider to be place based art. I established my business, Salt Textile Studios, to sell my goods. At this point my practice is more art focused that business. I work exclusively with locally grown and foraged plants and all natural fibers and I'm interested in making public art focused on the local ecology.

What are your values?

My work is rooted in a deep connection to place. I hope that my respect and reverence for the land and all of the life here in the city comes through in my work.

What can we find at Salt Textile Studios?

Along with naturally dyed, handwoven textiles, I teach workshops in dyeing with plants, weaving, making watercolor paints from plants, and also foraging.
